Privacy policy

In short: we only collect what is needed to reunite pets with their families. We do not show adverts, use tracking cookies or sell data. You can download or delete your data at any time from your account page.
Who we are
Find My Pet Cyprus (www.findmypetcy.com) is a free community website for lost, found and adoptable pets in Cyprus. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
Contact for privacy questions: privacy@findmypetcy.com
What we collect and why
- Listings you post: pet details, photos, the area and map location, the date and your description. These are published on the website after a moderator approves them, so that people can recognise the pet. Legal basis: your consent, given when you submit the listing.
- Contact details on a listing: your name and phone number are shown only to visitors who tap “Show contact details”. Your email address is never shown publicly; it is used to let you manage your listing. Legal basis: your consent.
- Your account: your email address and sign-in records. If you report without signing in, we create a guest account identified only by a random code stored on your device. Legal basis: needed to provide the service you asked for.
- Saved searches you choose to keep. Legal basis: needed to provide the service you asked for.
- Moderation records: moderator decisions and notes, how old an account is and how many listings it has posted. We use these to keep out spam, animal sales and abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the website safe.
- Technical data: our hosting providers record IP addresses in security logs. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure.
Photos
Before a photo is uploaded, your browser resizes it, which also removes hidden information such as the GPS location where it was taken. Please avoid photos that show people’s faces, car number plates or house numbers.
Vets & help directory
The Vets & help page lists the business contact details of vet clinics, shelters and rescue groups, taken from public directories and their own websites, so that people can call them when a pet is lost or found. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in helping reunite pets with their families. If you run one of these places and would like your details changed or removed, email hello@findmypetcy.com.
If you press “Use my location” on that page, your browser shares your position with the page only to sort the list by distance. It is not sent to us or stored.
Supporters and sponsorship enquiries
If you use the “Become a supporter” form, we collect your name, email address, the message you write and, if you give them, your business name and phone number. We use these only to reply to you and to discuss a possible sponsorship. Legal basis: steps you ask us to take before a possible agreement, and our legitimate interest in replying to enquiries. Only moderators can see enquiries. They are emailed to moderators through Brevo and deleted 12 months after they arrive.
Sponsor logos and links on the website do not track you and set no cookies. If we add a “Support the site” button, payments are handled entirely by the payment provider; we never see or store your payment details.
What we do not do
We do not show adverts, we do not use analytics or tracking cookies, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
Storage on your device
The website stores a small amount of information in your browser: your sign-in session, a draft of a report you have not finished, your language choice and recent postcode lookups. This is strictly necessary for the features you use, so no cookie consent is needed. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Who helps us run the website
- Supabase: database, sign-in and photo storage.
- GitHub Pages: hosting of the website.
- Brevo: sending sign-in and notification emails.
- Cloudflare: domain name service.
- OpenStreetMap Foundation: map images and postcode and place search. Your browser sends it your IP address and the place you search for.
Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area. Where data is transferred, it is protected by EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an EU adequacy decision, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep data
- Live listings stay online until you close or delete them.
- Closed and rejected listings, with their photos and contact details, are deleted 12 months after they were closed or rejected.
- Guest accounts with no listings are deleted after 30 days.
- Sponsorship enquiries are deleted 12 months after they arrive.
- Accounts are kept until you delete them. Deleting your account removes all your listings, photos, contact details, saved searches and sponsorship enquiries.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your personal data, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw your consent at any time.
You can download your data or delete your account yourself on the account page. For anything else, email us and we will reply within one month.
